Mahindra & Mahindra Plans to Expand Intra-City LCV Range

Mumbai-based Mahindra Mahindra (M&M) intends to increase the number of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) targeting a gap in the market for intra-city goods movement. By 2030, the company will introduce seven new light commercial vehicles (LCVs ) with an emphasis on medium (1.3-1.5 tons) and large (1.7-2 tons) underutilization. As discussed in the investor presentation, M&M’s calculated decision allows it to benefit from a growing segment, especially in places like the Middle East and Latin America.

M&M, which boasts a strong 49% market share in LCV sales (FY24), is trying to take advantage of the industry’s reliance on single and double-cabin options. Currently, M&M offers Camper and Max range which takes care of mainly intercity travel. However, the next introduction will focus on city exports and offer a range of fuel options, including an electric car, all while exceeding the 3.5-tonne weight limit.

The move marks M&M’s already strong position in the small LCV segment (1-1.2 ton payload), which it has maintained on popular models such as Supro and Jeeto M&M aims to deliver a low fuel consumption, moving payload ground and large will be brought. Renewable electricity can expand its product range by introducing LCVs. Global demand for e-commerce and on-demand delivery is driving the growth.
