FASTag Toll Collection Report: FY 23-24
National Electronic toll collection through FASTag first started in the year 2014 as a pilot project on the Golden Quadrilateral stretch between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. On 1st October 2017, NHAI opened a FASTag lane in all 370 toll plazas under its control. From 15th February 2021, ETC through FASTag was made mandatory at every toll plaza in India.
This report covers a toll-collection summary from FY 16-17 to FY 23-24, a summary of banks active on NETC, the top 10 issuance and acquiring banks on NETC, top 10 toll plazas in FY 23-24 as per amount collected in INR crores, top 10 states in FY 23-24 as per toll collection in INR crores.
ELECTRONIC TOLL COLLECTION IN INDIA: FY 16-17 to FY 23-24
FY 20-21 & FY 21-22 saw more than a 120% increase in ETC transactions through FASTag and the total amount collected touched 22,760 Cr and 38,080 Cr respectively. In FY 23-24, 384.01 Cr transactions took place through FASTag with an all-time high collection of INR 64,809 Cr.
As of March 2024, 946 toll plazas in India are equipped with FASTag across various highways and expressways in India.
ELECTRONIC TOLL COLLECTION IN INDIA: Active Banks on NETC & TAG ISSUANCE
As of March 2024, 39 banks are active with NETC for FASTag, and a total of 8.82 crore FASTags have been issued. From Apr 2020 to Mar 2024, 1101.13 Cr transactions have taken place through FASTag amounting to INR 1,79,800 Cr.
In terms of the Top 10 issuer banks wrt volume of transactions, IDFC First Bank leads the list with 55.15 Cr Txns in FY 23-24 followed by ICICI at 46.59 Cr and PAYTM Payments bank at 29.12 Cr.
In terms of the Top 10 acquiring banks wrt approved transactions, again IDFC First Bank leads the list with 84.07 Cr Txns followed by ICICI with 59.47 Cr Txns and PAYTM payments banks at 24.18 Cr Txns.
TOP 10 TOLL PLAZAS AS PER ETC COLLECTION IN INR CRORES: FY 23 – 24
In the top 10 list, the North Zone leads with 3 toll plazas followed by the Central zone with 2. Bharthana Toll Plaza in Gujarat falls in the Vadodara – Bharuch stretch of NH 48 and is the leading toll plaza in terms of ETC collection in FY 23-24 amounting to INR 472.21 Cr.
In 2nd number lies Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza (INR 428.78 Cr) in Rajasthan which falls in the Gurugram- Kotputli – Jaipur stretch of NH 8 followed by Gharonda Toll Plaza (INR 398.80 Cr) in Panipat Jalandhar stretch of NH 44.
Devanahalli Toll plaza in BLR – HYD stretch and en-route KIAL recorded the highest volume of ETC transactions in FY 23-24 totalling 2.75 Cr amounting to INR 294.44 Cr.
TOP 10 STATES AS PER ETC COLLECTION IN INR CRORES: FY 23-24
Due to its extensive network of expressways and highways, Uttar Pradesh leads in terms of the highest collection through ETC, with the number of transactions reaching 34.29 crore and collections totaling INR 6,888.77 crore.
Rajasthan, Gujarat & Maharashtra all fall in the New Delhi – Mumbai route and are 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the list respectively.
Tamilnadu & Karnataka are 5th and 6th in the list with no of transactions totaling 33.57 Cr and 32.32 Cr respectively, thanks to Chennai – Bengaluru Corridor.
In terms of zones, the central zone accounts for the largest share, with 25.3% of the total amount collected in FY 23-24 originating from this region.
