From Concept to Product: The Innovation Journey of LNG-Powered Commercial Vehicles
As climate change and sustainability become more important worldwide, the transportation sector faces growing criticism for its large role in greenhouse gas emissions. Diesel engines, known for their power and reliability, are now a major focus for reducing emissions because they produce a lot of CO2, NOx, and particulate matter.
LNG (liquefied natural gas) is emerging as a game-changer by offering reduced harmful emissions along with economic and energy security benefits. Recent geopolitical events and its lower carbon emissions have boosted global interest in LNG. The International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL) reported a rise in global LNG imports to 389 million tons in 2022, up from 372 million tons in 2021, marking a 4.5% increase. To meet this demand, nine new regasification terminals started operating globally in the same year. With natural gas reserves projected to last over 200 years, LNG ensures a reliable energy source even during high demand or supply disruptions.
