Mahindra LMML Unveils Udo: A New Electric Three-Wheeler Targeting City Commuters
M&M’s fully-owned subsidiary LMML has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio by launching the Udo electric three-wheeler, with an aim to strengthen urban passenger transport solutions. As more cities adopt EVs for commuting within short distances, the company has launched this product in order to address the growing demand from transport operators testing battery-powered options.
Battery, Range, and Efficiency
The Udo is equipped with an 11.7 kWh battery pack, and such a battery pack is appropriate for daily urban uses. The electric vehicle can reportedly run a distance of 200 km on a single charge.
Another performance indicator for electric three-wheelers is the energy consumption, and for Udo, this is 44 Wh/km. This can be very useful for the calculation of the operating cost, especially for fleets requiring multiple trips per day.
Designed for City Terrain
City driving also had to confront obstacles such as flyovers and hilly stretches. Mahindra has ensured a gradability of 25.8% for the Udo, which helps solve the problem of driving inclines.
Usually, the three-wheelers powered by electric motors are used for short and medium routes, and aspects such as power batteries, power efficiency, and tackling inclines are part of the consideration.
Practical Cabin Layout
The passenger layout of the Udo’s cabin is functional and space-efficient. Mahindra has avoided luxury features and instead focused on practicality, durability, and ease of maintenance that the high-usage passenger carrier deserves.
This resonates with a greater trend in the design of electric three-wheelers, where operational efficiency and reliability are more important than high-class comfort.
Price and Market Positioning
Mahindra LMML has priced the Udo at ₹3,58,999, making it competitive in the electric three-wheeler segment. Moreover, the range that is being claimed coupled with the battery capacity falls under the expected price bracket for the category.
ConclusionWith the introduction of the new model, Udo has offered another example for city transport operators who aspire to move to an electric platform. The array of new electric rickshaws seems to have remained attractive for major players, linking effectively to the concepts of efficient, cost-effective, and reliable solutions.
